Nikiana, Lefkas |
A village and harbour on the East coast of Lefkas, about nine kilometres
south of Lefkas Town. The village is spread out along the coast road and sea
front, and up into the green hills nearby.
Eating and Drinking - There are a few bars, cafes and restaurants along the
main street, as well as a few minimarkets. The waterfront tavernas are a
nice place to have an evening meal at sunset as the mountains on the
mainland turn red. The harbour is a good place to sit and watch the local
fishermen bring in their catch, and observe the yachts coming and going.
Beaches and Things To Do - There are several nice pebble beaches nearby, and
it is usually quite quiet except in the middle of the summer. The
surrounding area is green, with olive and cypress covered foothills backed
by the higher mountains of Lefkas. Walk into the foothills for fine views of
the East coast or drive over the mountains to the spectacular West Coast.
Exploring - Nikiana is in a good position for exploring. The local bus
service will take you to Lefkas Town for shopping. Hire a car and take a
drive over the mountains, through spectacular scenery, to the beaches of the
West Coast. Or drive along the East and South coasts to Vassiliki to watch
the windsurfers displaying their skills. Best to book your car in advance as
there are not many rental agencies in the village.
